New AA Project: Power of the Mind

March 18th, 2008

A new experiment has been introduced in the Astral Alliance.  This experiment, unlike past Dreamport experiments, will be dealing with something other than dreaming.  Instead of figuring out what the mind can do in the dream world, we’re trying to figure out what it can do in the real world.  The Power of the Mind is intended to have several projects, all of which will deal with Psychokinesis (manipulation of objects).  This first project, aimed at Micro-Telekinesis, will deal with forcing an outcome with numbers and whatnot.  For instance, if you have a deck of cards and you want to find the ace of spades, you could use micro-telekinesis to figure out exactly where that ace of spaces is located in the deck.

Psychokinesis is definitely a controversial topic, especially because of the huge amount of skepticism.  Sure this idea is pretty out there, but it’s not something to doubt right off the bat.  After all, if you did such a thing to lucid dreaming (another out there idea), where exactly would you be today?

Anyway, keep an open mind and read up on the experiment.  As always, anybody can join the Astral Alliance and participate in this project (or any of the projects for that matter).  Don’t hesitate to join if it interests you!

Psychokinesis

February 22nd, 2008

Ever since posting up the Power of the Mind post, I’ve been venturing more into the world of “mind powers.”  The question “What if we are capable of doing more than we think?” is clearly answered when you start doing some research.  We are most definitely capable of so much more; our minds have natural abilities that we don’t even recognize.  Psipog.net is a site dedicated to such abilities (of course now it’s only an archived website–they “shut down” in January of 2007) and all of the articles in there are quite interesting.  I’ve looked at some of this stuff a little before the site closed down and I must say, I was very intrigued by my results.

Psychokinesis refers to the power to affect matter with your mind.  The sub-categories of psychokinesis include pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, and my personal favorite, telekinesis.  We’ll stick with telekinesis for now.

Telekinesis has two sub-categories of its own: micro-tk and macro-tk.  Micro-tk is all about using your mind to get a desired outcome in something (some of you may know this as the “probability” factor–but this is actually a smidge different).  In “An Introduction to Telekinesis” by Peebrain over at Psipog.net, Peebrain gives an exercise to practice Micro-tk.  He tells you to take a deck of cards and pick a specific card.  Don’t try to find it by looking through the deck, just keep the card in your mind.  Now, start taking out cards in groups of six or so.  Don’t do it randomly; do it based off of what you feel is a group of six cards that does NOT contain yours.  Shuffle until you get such a feeling and take the six cards out.  It helps to think to yourself, saying, “What are the odds of my card being in this group of six?  If there’s 46 other cards, more likely than not, my card will be with those, not in this group.”  Keep taking cards out and eventually, you may end up eliminating all but five or so cards, one of them being the card you chose.  The idea here is to trick your mind into performing your desired task.  Since you probably don’t fully believe in micro-tk, it’s helpful to think about opposite odds here.  Don’t think “oh my card is probably going to be in this group.”  Instead, think “there’s no possible way for it to be in here, the odds are against it from being here!”  A little bit of practice and you’ve got yourself a kickass card trick that your friends won’t be able to solve.

Macro-tk involves more movement than micro-tk.  The example given on the same article by Peebrain, the same example I went through a while ago prior to the site closing, is the most solid proof of telekinesis for me.  Basically, and this is described much better on Peebrain’s article, you fold a small piece of paper or foil (foil worked MUCH better for me) in a specific way and then put it on a pin.  The point of the experiment is to make the paper rotate on the pin with your mind.  Here’s a picture, taken from Peebrain’s article, of the setup:

When I tried this experiment, I got my “pinwheel” to revolve pretty fast and change directions.  It really is amazing because this works if you do something as simple as believe it will.  It’s like trying to perform a task in a lucid dream.  Whatever you do that makes you think it’ll work will do the job!  Now, macro-tk isn’t just limited to paper on a pin.  The pinwheel is more like training wheels than anything.  If you master the wheel, you can move onto greater things, like rolling a pencil or pushing light objects.  Who knows, maybe you can levitate a staple within the first month or so.  It sounds very far out and unrealistic, but that’s only because this ability to manipulate things hasn’t really been introduced to you in lesson or even theory (formal, that is).

Anyway, I’m considering on starting a project on the forum regarding telekinesis shortly after The Green Room project.  It should be interesting to see results.  Until then, I highly encourage you guys to check out Peebrain’s article and the other very informative articles on PsiPog.net!

What does it mean to be awake?

February 21st, 2008

Some time or another everybody is bound to ask themselves the ultimate question: What if life as we know it is just one big dream?  I had a discussion with friends about the subject and it’s really quite interesting when you venture into the possibilities of what life might really be.  Everything could very well be just all in our head.  Our senses–touch, sight, smell, taste, and sound–are really just interpretations of the mind; so, who’s to say that we aren’t anywhere at all and that our lives are just vivid experiences within our minds?

Things become very interesting when considering what happens upon death.  What if when you die, you actually just enter a new reality–or rather a new “dream”.  Maybe this new reality would be completely different–one where the laws of physics cease to exist and your very form is far from what you’re used to it being.  Or maybe it’s the same exact “dream” all over again.  Perhaps that’s the real definition of heaven or hell.  You spend your whole life knowing exactly what you’ve done and what you really deserve; your dream might very well be what you expect it to be (live a life of happiness, continue to be happy, etc..).

So, what exactly does it mean to be awake?  Are we, right now, awake and existing?  Or, are we just a presence waiting to just wake up?

Finding Yourself with Dream Psychic

February 19th, 2008

“To dream of visiting a seaport, denotes that you will have opportunities of traveling and acquiring knowledge, but there will be some who will object to your anticipated tours.”  This is one of literaly thousands (over 10,000 to be exact) of interpretations of common, and uncommon, items that appear in your dreamworld as you sleep each night.  Dream Psychic is an online reference library of anything and everything related to dreaming.  The site offers an easy to use dictionary of dream interpretations.  Let’s say you constantly dream about teeth and you begin to wonder exactly why your mind is presenting such a thing to you.  Well, simply look on the navigation bar to the left of the site, hit “Dream Meanings T,” and then scroll through the pages of other items until you find “teeth.”

The site is very well organized and allows for you to quickly and easily look up anything you could possibly dream of.  The administrators of the site have also created a free e-book, also located on their site.

I’ve personally looked at this site several times and it really is great to use to figure out some of the deeper meanings of your dreams.  It’s almost as if our subconscious is trying to tell us something each night as we doze off–maybe it’s trying to say you’re too stressed, or maybe it’s trying to guide you in some major decision that you’re dealing with currently.  Whatever it may be trying to say, it wants you to listen.

Anyway, I recommend you guys checking the site out; you can really learn a lot about yourselves.  For future reference, the site will also be located in our “Interesting Links” section located to the left of our main page.

Power of the Mind

February 14th, 2008

I just saw Jumper today (the movie where the guy can teleport) and it really got me thinking, what if we could actually do something remotely close to such a thing like teleportation?  That may seem a little far out, and perhaps it is, but it’s always interesting to question something every once in a while.  In today’s world we have things like remote viewing (which was used by the CIA) where remote viewers could basically pinpoint the location of a desired target.  Even things like lucid dreaming makes one question what we are really capable of.  I mean, think about it, our mind has the ability to create a whole entire environment every single night–one that we can actually consciously observe and manipulate.  Our mind is so complex and mysterious, why shouldn’t we be allowed to do things like telekinesis or telepathy?

Maybe we all can do such things, and maybe it’s our doubt that prevents us from easily being capable of these “powers.”  It’s hard to claim that we can’t, especially when not a whole lot of people have even tried in the first place.  We should be inclined to question our abilities; after all, we just might find something worth exploring.

DreamPort on CBS News

February 4th, 2008

Local CBS 11 news here in North Texas aired a segment tonight featuring lucid dreaming and a co-administrator, Benjamin Klingler (BenDrummin58).  The segment reveals the art of lucid dreaming and interviews with Ben and Damian Nordmann of the School of Metaphysics.  It’s really quite something and allows for many newcomers to see and understand the concepts of lucid dreaming.  Check it out at the CBS website:

Also, a similar segment, if not the same, will be airing on the TXA21 News station (again, in North Texas) this Wednesday (Feb. 6) between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

Thank you CBS/TXA21 for picking up the story and thank you community members for sticking around with us!

A new technique?

January 16th, 2008

The lucid dreaming community might be on the verge of a new technique that’s dependent on a device.  Unlike the Nova Dreamer (a commercial device that’ll cost you in the hundreds), this device is as cheap as a wrist watch at WalMart.  The method, developed by Jayster over at LD4All, is called Vibrating Watch Induced Lucid Dreaming (VWILD).  You basically wear a wrist watch and have it vibrate throughout the day.  When this happens, you perform a reality check.  After this becomes habitual, it’ll carry over in to your dreams as you continue to wear your watch while sleeping.  The watch will vibrate during a dream and, allegedly, you’ll become lucid!  The method is still under some testing, but I highly recommend you check it out and read this informative review from The Mad Hatter over at his blogging site.  The link is below.

The Green Room

January 9th, 2008

A new experiment has been launched within the AA.  This new experiment, which is replacing a previous experiment that took place half a year ago, is going to focus on the credibility of shared dreaming–that is, whether or not it’s possible.  Members will try to incubate a green room and meet up with others to answer the million dollar question: Do we dream alone?  The project needs some management positions, so check out the thread if you’re either interested in managing or just participating.

Liquatic

November 4th, 2007

Will Pheagin, a good friend of mine, and Jamie Leto have finally launched their community driven site, Liquatic, that’s dedicated to anything and everything related to graphic design.  Will is a brilliant photographer and displays his works of art for all to see on this site, and then offers to show you that you too can create beauty.  Every one of his photos have the whole “right place at the right time” quality to them, displaying those perfect moments in life.  The site also allows for users to host blogs, show off image galleries, hire photographers, search through tutorials, and download templates for both graphic and web design.  It’s this great combination of features and Will’s inspiration filled photography that without a doubt makes Liquatic our next spotlighted site!  So go ahead, check it out!!

Some updates

September 24th, 2007

Lately the forum has undergone some serious spamming issues because of our past policy of not forcing activation upon registration.  Well sadly we were attacked by a mini army of spammers posting offensive material all over the place.  If you happened to see any of them, we’d like to apologize for any disruptions it may have caused.

For the good of the forum, we have now turned on account activation again in hopes of getting rid of these annoying spammers.  However, since many are probably still registered with us, give it some time before all spammers are gone.  We’re deleting posts/users as they appear; we just have to wait until we get them all.

Moving on to the whole Blue Diamond Award status.  We have decided to halt the award until further notice for several reasons; one of those reasons being that the forum is in a hibernation-like state right now, which we plan to drastically change in the upcoming months.  We’re currently doing some background work on the site, planning out many items of interest that require some time.  Until we’re finished, things may be a little slow around here on our part; however, after our next big release, things will get much more lively.  With that said, we still highly encourage you the community to take part!

You’ll start to see things pop out between now and November.  One main area that you’ll see a change in is the Astral Alliance section.  The Shared Dreaming Project sort of declined in the past months because of busy schedules, but we plan to re-create that and shape it into something a little more active.  In addition, new experiments will be announced soon such as Psi Manipulation, Dream Incubation, Lucid Extremities, and much more!

These events are only a small portion of what is to come, and while we the DreamPort team are influencing such events, we want you the community to step out as well and start creating whatever it is that you want to create.  Unlike most other forums, DreamPort is really open to anything that you want.  If you’re in the Astral Alliance, post any experiment that you’d like without any permission at all and see where it takes you!  If you want to make software, create anything you want and post it for free in our software portal and we will spotlight it on our main page, giving you much attention!  If you just want to show off some random thing that you made, go for it!  In addition, feel free to discuss anything you want around the forum; we will very rarely delete off topic threads (we only delete spam), so if there’s something on your mind, go ahead and post away!  There are no limits!

The beauty about this small community right now is that whatever you have a problem with, you can get it answered in a very short amount of time by somebody who has good insight, while at other busy forums it may get lost in pages of other threads.  So, if you’re having lucid problems, or even non lucid problems such as asking that girl at school out or figuring out what college you want to go to, don’t hesitate to ask.

With all said and done, we truly hope that everybody warms up to DreamPort if they haven’t already.  It really is a pretty sweet place to be at :)
