Psychokinesis
Friday, February 22nd, 2008Ever since posting up the Power of the Mind post, I’ve been venturing more into the world of “mind powers.” The question “What if we are capable of doing more than we think?” is clearly answered when you start doing some research. We are most definitely capable of so much more; our minds have natural abilities that we don’t even recognize. Psipog.net is a site dedicated to such abilities (of course now it’s only an archived website–they “shut down” in January of 2007) and all of the articles in there are quite interesting. I’ve looked at some of this stuff a little before the site closed down and I must say, I was very intrigued by my results.
Psychokinesis refers to the power to affect matter with your mind. The sub-categories of psychokinesis include pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, and my personal favorite, telekinesis. We’ll stick with telekinesis for now.
Telekinesis has two sub-categories of its own: micro-tk and macro-tk. Micro-tk is all about using your mind to get a desired outcome in something (some of you may know this as the “probability” factor–but this is actually a smidge different). In “An Introduction to Telekinesis” by Peebrain over at Psipog.net, Peebrain gives an exercise to practice Micro-tk. He tells you to take a deck of cards and pick a specific card. Don’t try to find it by looking through the deck, just keep the card in your mind. Now, start taking out cards in groups of six or so. Don’t do it randomly; do it based off of what you feel is a group of six cards that does NOT contain yours. Shuffle until you get such a feeling and take the six cards out. It helps to think to yourself, saying, “What are the odds of my card being in this group of six? If there’s 46 other cards, more likely than not, my card will be with those, not in this group.” Keep taking cards out and eventually, you may end up eliminating all but five or so cards, one of them being the card you chose. The idea here is to trick your mind into performing your desired task. Since you probably don’t fully believe in micro-tk, it’s helpful to think about opposite odds here. Don’t think “oh my card is probably going to be in this group.” Instead, think “there’s no possible way for it to be in here, the odds are against it from being here!” A little bit of practice and you’ve got yourself a kickass card trick that your friends won’t be able to solve.
Macro-tk involves more movement than micro-tk. The example given on the same article by Peebrain, the same example I went through a while ago prior to the site closing, is the most solid proof of telekinesis for me. Basically, and this is described much better on Peebrain’s article, you fold a small piece of paper or foil (foil worked MUCH better for me) in a specific way and then put it on a pin. The point of the experiment is to make the paper rotate on the pin with your mind. Here’s a picture, taken from Peebrain’s article, of the setup:

When I tried this experiment, I got my “pinwheel” to revolve pretty fast and change directions. It really is amazing because this works if you do something as simple as believe it will. It’s like trying to perform a task in a lucid dream. Whatever you do that makes you think it’ll work will do the job! Now, macro-tk isn’t just limited to paper on a pin. The pinwheel is more like training wheels than anything. If you master the wheel, you can move onto greater things, like rolling a pencil or pushing light objects. Who knows, maybe you can levitate a staple within the first month or so. It sounds very far out and unrealistic, but that’s only because this ability to manipulate things hasn’t really been introduced to you in lesson or even theory (formal, that is).
Anyway, I’m considering on starting a project on the forum regarding telekinesis shortly after The Green Room project. It should be interesting to see results. Until then, I highly encourage you guys to check out Peebrain’s article and the other very informative articles on PsiPog.net!
